Jess
Pedal Steel Guitar
Jess has had quite an impressive careeer as a musician. First Opry star he played with was fiddler named Floyd Ehterage. Jess
played rhythm guitar for him. Also played with the Baker Brothers, Bob and Jimmy. Jess auditioned for the Opry as Jess states
"in front of the man himself George D. Hayes" around 1946. Bill Monroe was already established so their group didn't get on. He
was on WABJ radio in Adrian, MI several times. During the 50's and 60's he worked the clubs in Toledo and WTOD with Tommy
Lloyd and the Strolling Cowboys. During these times he backed up several of the Opry stars such as Web Pierce, Connie Smith,
Mel Tillis and Jimmy Dickens when they would stop in to get radio advertising for their show dates. He's played with
Montana Mel and The Sunset Pioneers on WTOL radio Saturday evenings. Danny Claud and the Synchros. The Gene Merrit Band at
the Whistle Stop in Monroe, MI. In 1975 played with The Nashville Gas band at the Hill Top with John Renner, Butch Ramsey
and Tommy Lloyd at Tremainsville Gardens. Chuck James and Wild Country. In 1978 he played the International Pedel Steel Convention
in St. Louis and two other times since. On one of the Ralph Emery Days in McEwen, TN. he played with the Nashville Now Band
in the 80's. He also performed at the Aloha International Club show in Winchester, IN., the Hawaiian Show in Joliet, ILL.
and the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1989. Jess has been with the Silver Creek Band the past 14
years. He says, "I've been blessed all these years. Thanks Toledo, you are the Greatest as Jackie Gleason would say." Besides
being on The Silver Creek Band CD he has two others. Jess Hurt at the WSM Big Three Showcase Nashville, TN. and the Sunday
Afternoon Ramble Show #22 from the J.J. O'Shea and Jim Van Dielen show on WCWA AM radio. Jess Hurt hails from McEwen, TN.
